Early headquarters for Cow Creek Sheep Company were in Powder Wash, CO.  (The curator of the Little Snake River Museum in Savery, Wyoming told me that is the location of the "original Cow Creek Sheep Company headquarters".) The photos on this page were taken of Powder Wash in 2004.  The remains of sheep pens (probably the early Cow Creek headquarters) are still present in the small oil town in Moffat County, located only 4 miles from Wyoming.

John Kelly Hartt, Cow Creek owner, was not the only early inhabitant of Powder Wash.  The remains of Butch Cassidy's cabin are also located near Powder Wash. The 1999 issue of The Outlaw Journal also states that Cow Creek, while owned by Hartt, was once managed by Andrew Jebons, an associate of Cassidy's.
